SO YOU WANT TO BE A RAP SUPERSTAR... HUH?

    Ok, so u are a manager, promoter, producer, rapper, singer & you want to be apart of the musical industry. The industry has you gassed up on the fact that u can make lots of money & live this extra ordinary life of "BALLIN", "BUYING OUT DA BAR", "MAKING IT RAIN ON DEM H@3S", & having fancy "WIPES & JEWELRY". The thing they don't explain is that this is a job & a business, & like any business you have to pay taxes on the money you or your business earns or losses. See a lot of these so called ballers are faking the funk. Aye you tell me...

    Here is just a small list of Stars, Artist, Producers in the game that  just can't seem to get it right wit the IRS. Now for these so called Rap superstars that flaunt money like it doesn't matter check them out. Money def matters to the IRS.

*Now Understand this is just estimates & also doesn't include the fact of shady business deals*

Method Man
Or, more formally, Clifford Smith, has been all the talk this past week. What’s the big fuss? First off, he was arrested in October on felony charges, and accused of declining to pay $32,799 in personal income tax along with state income tax. Method Man pled guilty to the charges, and surrendered $106,000 in back taxes, penalties and interest over to the IRS. While the arrest could have guaranteed him four years in prison, our Man got off with a mere ‘conditional charge’- basically a spot in time out, with all charges cleared as long as he could stay out of trouble.

Swizz Beatz
Celebrated producer and acclaimed artist ‘Swizzy’ owes an even larger chunk of change to the IRS. Apparently, Beatz was recently served a $652,727 tax lien for unpaid federal taxes from 2008. What’s worse, this isn’t the first time. Swizz’s history shows a total of almost $2.2 million in back tax debt. I guess all of his ‘money in the bank’ could only last for so long…

Fat Joe
We should have known when his two million dollar Florida estate went on the market. Owing over $71,000 to cover the lost judgment against Florida Sun Trust, Fat Joe takes the third and final position on our list. And, it turns out that Florida may be the least of this rapper’s worries. Fat Joe reportedly owes back taxes amounting to $139,000 from previous liens such as the $105,000 claim from the state of New Jersey in 2008.

Macy Gray
Is the latest celebrity with tax problems. Macy owes the California Tax Franchise Board more than $50,000 in unpaid taxes. Macy Gray is an American R&B soul singer that is known by her distinctive raspy voice. Some of her better known hits are “I Try” & “Beauty in the World”. Recently she competed on Dancing with the Stars and was eliminated fairly quickly. It seems Dancing with the Stars & IRS problems go hand in hand. Macy isn’t the first celebrity from dancing with the stars to run into problems with the IRS, others include:

* Helio Castroneves
* Aaron Carter
* Toni Braxton
* Lil Kim
* Shannen Doherty
* Debi Mazar

There is a new celebrity almost everyday running into tax problems with the IRS or State revenue collectors. Here are two recent notable celebrities that owe State back taxes.

Mekhi Phifer
is best known for his role in the movie “8-Mile” as Eminem’s best friend. He has also appeared in movies such as “Dawn of the Dead”, ‘Honey”, as well on TV episodes such as “Curb Your Enthusiasm”, and “ER” Mekhi like many other celebrities is facing tax problems. Mekhi had a California State tax lien filed against him on 4/26 with the Los Angeles County of Deeds. He currently owes the State of California $108k in change.
-
LeVar Burton
is well known actor, director, and author who is best known for his role in Star Trek: The Next Generation. LeVar has also hosted and produced a “Reading Rainbow” for PBS, and directed episodes of Charmed, JAG, and the The Tiger Woods Story Documentary to name a few. On March 24th, the State of California filed a tax lien against Burton

Evander Holyfield
the legendary boxer, owes the IRS over $145k for back taxes stemming from 00, 05, and 07 and 08. According to the Detroit News, and public records, the IRS slapped Evander with a tax lien on 8/14/2009 in Fayette County Superior Court which is located in Georgia. Evander’s residence somewhere in Fayetteville, GA was hit with the tax lien it seems.

Evander’s IRS tax problems break down as follows:

* $36,464.42 in back taxes from 2000
* $70.12 in back taxes from 2005
* $45,707.95 in back taxes from 2007
* $63,226.10 in back taxes from 2008

Eddie Griffin

the famous comedian faces more financial difficulties after being slapped with a tax lien by the State of California for back taxes totaling approximately $142k. Eddie starred in many movies, and made fun of his money issues recently with a VH1 series called “Going for Broke.”
According to the Detroit News, the State of California filed a tax lien against Eddie in late November in the LA County Recorder of Deeds office.

OutKast Member Big Boi (Antwan Patton)

is reported to owe the IRS $55,000 in back taxes. The state of Georgia filed a tax lien against Antwan Patton and his wife on June 1st. He is the latest rapper/celeb who has fallen into trouble with the IRS. OutKast has become one of the most successful groups of all time.

It makes you wonder if all these people are really having financial troubles or is the IRS just getting too complex causing problems for many people. In 2007 Big Boi and Andre “3000″ ranked 13 in Forbes Hip-Hop Cash Kings list and they are said to have made $14 million that year. It is hard to believe that he doesn’t have enough to pay his taxes or even pay a financial adviser to enough to make sure he stays in compliance with IRS laws.

Ruben Studdard
Of 'American Idol' fame is no stranger to tax trouble. On Feb. 4, 2009, the IRS filed a $60,469 lien against Studdard for unpaid taxes due from 2007. This is the fourth time either the IRS or the state of Alabama have filed liens against the singer. In total, he owes almost $200,000 to both entities. Most of that relates to 2003, the year in which Studdard snagged a $1 million record deal by way of his win on the television show.

Steve Harvey

Amount owed: $2.1 million
Offense: Wonder Love Inc., a company owned by Harvey, one of the "Original Kings of Comedy," has a huge unpaid tax bill. The IRS finds this unamusing.

Terrence Howard
Amount owed: $1.1 million
Offense: The actor allegedly failed to pay taxes on his 2007 and 2008 income. It appears that Howard, Oscar-nominated for his role in Hustle and Flow, may be more familiar with the former than the latter.

Snoop Dogg
Amount owed: $598,000
Offense: The IRS has filed a lien against the rapper for the second straight year — last year, he faced similar charges over the $284,000 he owed the state of California. A case of Ego Trippin' - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia?

Prince
Amount owed: Approximately $450,000
Offense: The musician's management company owes Minnesota state taxes. A http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sign_o%...s_%28album%29?

Hope ya'll are paying attention. Make sure the right people are working with you & your money. They put people away for evading taxes people, ask Wesley Snipes.

Aye look, everyone wants to be successful, but at what cost. Is it really worth all the acting. These dudes supposly make thousands to millions of dollars (at least that's how they act in their videos & in interviews) but they can't pay their taxes. Keep thinking these superstars are role models & your hero's. You might just end up like them...

Peace,
TF1
